A Two-Man Event with KAO=S, Active Worldwide

KAO=S is a unit composed of Kaori Kawabuchi and Shuji Yamagiri. What started from a chance meeting with their leader Yamagiri led to this event themed around “Light and Darkness.” The opening act was HikariYamii, featuring a hammer dulcimer.

Post-Performance Reflections

Though the three artists come from completely different genres, the conceptual spark came from KAO=S leader Yamagiri’s idea of depicting light and darkness. Since “light” and “darkness” can be perceived differently depending on one’s viewpoint or circumstances, yj imagined twilight and dawn, and named the event “Dusk and Dawn.”
Their setlist explored light and darkness from various perspectives, resulting in a deeply layered 50-minute performance. In an experimental move, they added VJ captions before each track, which many audience members said made them feel like they were experiencing a story — serving as an interpretive guide.
On that day, they also premiered a new song titled “One Last Word”, evoking funeral imagery. The silhouettes of those present in the audience were projected during the show — another first for them.
